NRCSS ACr-1 in detail
Notified in January 2016 after multi-location testing across Rajasthan's stem gall disease hotspots, NRCSS ACr-1 holds its yield even where the disease hits hard.
Origin & story
NRCSS ACr-1 was developed at the ICAR-National Research Centre on Seed Spices, Ajmer, Rajasthan, by selection from accession EC 467683. It was tested in station and co-ordinated trials from 2009-10 to 2012-13 across Ajmer, Jobner and Kota under the coded entry COR 35 (selection ACr-01-256). It was notified in January 2016 by the State Varietal Release Committees of Rajasthan.
How it grows
A medium-duration variety that consistently out-yielded the local check across multi-location trials and performed especially well in stem gall hotspot areas where susceptible varieties suffered heavy losses. It is suited to Rajasthan and other coriander-growing states, including the Hadoti (Haroti) region of south-eastern Rajasthan where stem gall is severe.
Quality & character
Bold seed with a 1000-seed weight of about 11.3 g. Seeds carry 0.497% essential oil and 8.68% total oil, with linalool around 77.8%. Aromatic.
Why it matters to buyers
In stem gall sick fields at Anta, Baran district, ACr-1 recorded just 0.2% disease against 42% for the state check (RCr-435) and 78% for the local check (CS-6), giving 1198 kg/ha from sick fields versus 632 and 345 kg/ha respectively. Under healthy conditions it averaged 1168.8 kg/ha, about 21% above the local check. Reported survey incidence of stem gall in Kota, Baran and Jhalawar districts ran as high as 60-70% in the worst-affected villages, so growers in those areas gain most from its resistance. Its oil profile suits whole-spice and extraction markets.
