NRCSS ACr-2 in detail
NRCSS ACr-2 is a pan-India coriander variety released in 2019 to help bridge yield gaps across India's diverse coriander zones, from semi-arid Rajasthan to the eastern Gangetic plains.
Origin & story
Developed at ICAR-National Research Centre on Seed Spices, Ajmer, Rajasthan and released in 2019. It was created to address India's coriander productivity shortfall, with average national yield around 1330 kg/ha (2017-18) against an estimated genetic potential of 1600-2000 kg/ha.
How it grows
Released for all coriander-growing areas of India, including Rajasthan, Haryana, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Uttarakhand and Chhattisgarh. Grown as a rabi crop. In an ICAR-NRCSS field trial (2017-18), applying 60:30:20 kg/ha NPK with 30 cm x 10 cm spacing gave the best results: plant height about 91.4 cm, roughly 10.9 primary and 13.3 secondary branches, seed yield about 1271 kg/ha and essential oil yield about 6.74 kg/ha. It responds well to balanced nutrition and proper spacing.
Quality & character
In the same trial, the best treatment produced around 34 umbels per plant and about 5.9 umbellates per umbel. Powdery mildew resistance has been reported, with a percent disease score around 21.69%. Unlike NRCSS ACr-1, which was bred specifically for stem gall tolerance, ACr-2 is positioned mainly as a high-yielding type rather than a stem-gall-resistant one. Essential oil content was a stated focus during its development.
Why it matters to buyers
Available through state seed certification networks and NRCSS breeder and foundation seed channels. Because it was released for a wide range of climates, it can be a lower-risk choice for growers in varied or marginal coriander zones.

Over the past five decades, Indian research institutions have developed dozens of improved varieties, each suited to specific climates, soils, and market demands, while traditional landraces…
