Pusa Mustard 30 in detail
A single zero (low erucic acid) Indian mustard released by IARI in 2013, bred to combine bold seeds with canola-quality oil for the premium edible market.
Origin & story
Developed at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (ICAR-IARI), New Delhi, and released in 2013. ICAR-IARI licensed the variety to M/S Arpan Seeds Private Ltd. in Rajasthan under a public-private partnership to support large-scale farmer cultivation. It is recommended for Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, and eastern Rajasthan.
How it grows
Suited to timely sown, well-irrigated rabi (winter) cultivation. Matures in about 137 days, roughly 7-10 days earlier than other released quality varieties. Average seed yield is reported at about 18.24 quintals per hectare. Grown in central and northern India across the four recommended states.
Quality & character
A bold-seeded mustard with about 37.7% oil content and erucic acid below 2% (single zero classification). The oil carries a balanced proportion of linoleic and linolenic acids. Classified as canola-quality mustard for edible and industrial use due to its low erucic acid and fatty acid profile.
Why it matters to buyers
Preferred by oil processors for premium edible oil because the low (<2%) erucic acid meets canola-quality standards, unlike standard mustards where erucic acid can exceed 40%. Bold seed size aids physical cleaning and sorting. Medium yield paired with consistent quality appeals to buyers seeking a reliable canola-quality supply.
