Origin & story
Developed and released in the 1990s by the Cardamom Research Centre at Appangala, Kodagu district, Karnataka (under ICAR-IISR). It was selected as a rhizome rot–resistant line with morphology intermediate between the Malabar and Vazhukka types. It later served as one parent of the hybrid Appangala-2.

An intermediate-type selection grown in the cardamom tracts of Karnataka. It was chosen for resistance to rhizome rot, which makes it of interest where that disease is a concern.
