Agrifound Parvati in detail
A long-day garlic selected from exotic Hong Kong market material in 1992, bred specifically for the mid-altitude and hill zones of northern India, where its bigger cloves suit export.
Origin & story
Agrifound Parvati was developed by NHRDF (National Horticultural Research and Development Foundation), Nashik, in 1992 through selection from a Hong Kong market garlic collection. It was developed specifically for cultivation at mid to higher elevations in Jammu-Kashmir and the Himalayan zones, with larger cloves aimed at export demand.
How it grows
This is a long-day type, suited to mid and higher elevations rather than the plains. It was developed for hill conditions in Jammu-Kashmir and other Himalayan areas. It is suited to both domestic use and export.
Quality & character
Bulbs are large, 5.0–6.5 cm in diameter, creamy-white with a pinkish tinge. Each bulb holds 10–16 bigger cloves. Reported chemistry is 36°B total soluble solids, 38.5% dry matter, and 23 μmol/g pyruvic acid, pointing to good pungency and flavour.
Why it matters to buyers
The larger cloves are the main draw, making the variety attractive for premium fresh export and processing where bigger cloves are valued. It is grown in the northern hill regions rather than the main plains-growing belts.
